Billyt1
I have always harvested vein then 1st assisted the entire case. Since moving to California, I was under the impression a second surgeon would first assist while I harvested vein. Turns out I harvest vein and then first assist and a second surgeon helps me close the sternum. Is this routine practice everywhere? Seems a little suspicious to me. I'm listed as second assistant on op note. Are there any written rules for this so called second surgeon? I'm aware of title 22 but it's not really specific on what or how long a second surgeon must be present. What is routine for your practice? I'm not interested in breaking any laws.
