Guard and Residency

Does anyone have experience attending a civilian physician assistant residency while in the ARNG?  Did the residency view this as a positive while applying or is it seen as a scheduling conflict?  Is it possible to build into your contract a clause stating that you will not deploy until AFTER you have completed the residency? (no issues w/ deployment, just wouldn't want to lose my residency slot if it could be helped)   I understand the military has its own residency program but as they only select a 2 per year it seems as if applying to civilian programs improves your odds.  Thank you kindly.
