best way to go about asking for the raise...

Recommended Posts

So a year and a half ago I negotiated my way from a hourly paid part time position in a (supposed) part time salaried position. My hours went from about 20 weekly to 32 officially but I work much(!) more than that. I have more than demonstrated that I am capable of handling not only my designated workload but can also handle phone triage for the office along with research activities and presentations for the our bigger hospital based program and program development. I get tired thinking about how busy I am.

I haven't had a performance review since March 2009 when I was still quite part time. My review seems to have slipped off the radar. I met with our director a week or so ago and she confirmed that and said it would happen fairly soon. I just sent an e mail to remind her.

So my question is, what sort of raise is reasonable to ask for? I made it clear to my director that I am officially working part time but am working full time hours. I didn't say out loud "and I need to be compensated for that" but I probably should have. I have access to my desktop from home (good and bad) so I find myself doing all kinds of work after hours at home.

I have decent benefits and CME and I don't take call. We have profit sharing set up and I usually get something from that, but no productivity bonus (I think the docs get those) and I certainly didn't get anything like a Christmas bonus last year. I am a salaried employee but do not have a contract per se.

Is a 10% increase out of the question to ask for? Do I ask for that hoping to get 5%?

How have others done this?

thanks in advance for your input
