HEALTH Now Recruiting Public and Professional Physician Assistants Board Members

PROVIDENCE - The Rhode Island Department of Health (HEALTH) today announced its recruitment of new members for the state Physician Assistants Board, which licenses and regulates the physician assistant profession. HEALTH is particularly interested in expanding the diversity of this Board, whose members include both licensed healthcare professionals and members of the public, all of whom serve a three-year term.

"The Physician Assistants Board protects the public by establishing standards for training and conduct, reviewing license applications, and investigating and disciplining cases of professional misconduct," said Michael Fine, M.D., director of HEALTH. "Serving on the Physician Assistants Board is an opportunity for community members and professionals to get involved in Rhode Island's public health infrastructure and process."

HEALTH currently seeks two licensed physicians who are actively engaged in the practice of medicine, one chief executive officer of a healthcare facility located and licensed in Rhode Island, two licensed physician assistants, and two members of the general public who are not employed in any health-related field.

The Physician Assistants Board meets quarterly at the Department of Health in Providence.
