Paper Accepted - PA Owned Headache Clinic

Now I found this surprising and encouraging. I'm analyzing data. One question ask, "Before being seen (at our clinic) . . . how comfortable were you in seeing a Physician Assistant/Physician Associate as a headache specialist?" The questionnaire has a scale of 1-5 with 5 being extremely comfortable. Out of 100 responders, 92 marked "5" and 2 more marked "4." This has nothing to do with me. This was asking the question about how they felt before they met us. I would have guessed it would have been much lower.

Oh, I wasn't looking for praise. This last comment was simply I was surprised how open, at least in our area, patients are to seeing a PA. It surprised me. I thought 50% would have reservations. I don't know what the national average is. I always thought we should do good, nation wide studies on patient perceptions of seeing PAs and how that changed after actually seeing them. I was hoping, in my study, to show a lot of movement from before seeing the PA to after. However, if they start out with an extremely positive view of PAs, it is hard to move them much through a positive experience. I had one survey that had a decreased view of PAs after seeing me. Based on how she answered other questions (and her write in comments) I know who it was. It was a patient who came to see me to get more of her 120 Vicodin per month because her PCP was cutting her off. I told her that I would give her enough to taper her down while working on getting her better. She said like hell I would. But that is the risk of random surveys.
