lbkiss Posted March 14, 2013 Most of the surgical books I own are about cardiac or the ICU (Bojar's, Marino's). Can someone recommend a solid general surgery text? Thanks.
rcdavis Posted March 14, 2013 Schwartz. And, for the library, Cope's early diagnosis of the acute abdomen
Moderator EMEDPA Posted March 14, 2013 Moderator agree with Davis. for a quick reference Lawrence essentials of surgery is also good. for rotation review surgical secrets also very good.
Moderator EMEDPA Posted March 14, 2013 Moderator I liked Greenfield when I was in residency. and probably his filter as well although I guess those are going out of favor....
Medic207 Posted March 15, 2013 and probably his filter as well although I guess those are going out of favor.... Why? Because they are "inferior"?
CornellSPA Posted March 18, 2013 Schwartz is the king of surgical texts for the PA. CHeck out Surgical Recall for life saving tips!
greenmood Posted May 30, 2013 Just to check... you guys are talking about this text, correct? I am super psyched to have found a great job in general surgery and will be starting this summer, but I won't be spending very much time in the OR. So question: for those of you who've read through the Schwartz text, do you think it would be helpful for a PA in a mostly floor-based surgery position? Or, is there something better out there? I have Surgical Recall from my rotation but I would like something with a little more depth.

anewconvert Posted December 12, 2016 Bumping this one up. I am going to be using an elective in March with a surgeon that I am actively petitioning for a job. I want to be sharp for the four weeks I am working with her and her partners. Any other suggested texts besides those mentioned here?

Stick with Surgical Recall and review a good anatomy text. Most of what you will need to know will be pre and post op care.
