PAruby Posted February 28, 2013 My fiance and I are planning our wedding for a month after I finish school. I intend to change my last name, and have some questions on logistics for anyone who has gone through it. If I graduate and take the PANCE under my maiden name, but then get married, I'll have to almost immediately update all the info for my license, any DEA stuff I may have in progress, state certification, etc. How big of a hassle is this, and how big of a delay am I looking at as far as employment? The other option we could consider is going to the courthouse a few months ahead so I can have my married name on my diploma, PANCE, and licensure straight off, and having the big wedding after graduation as planned. We're pretty traditional, so this isn't necessarily our comfort level, but I'd much rather avoid as much hassle and expense, especially while awaiting that first employment and paycheck... Anyone with this experience have any suggestions? (and yes, I'm 100% set on changing my name - LOL like I said, we're pretty traditional )
Just Steve Posted February 28, 2013 What are your thoughts on holding off on the name change until after your first paycheck?
PAruby Posted February 28, 2013 Author that's another option, though i'm not really sure how that would be less hassle, then I'll have to change all licenses, DEA, AND employment records... i'm not opposed if it actually makes it easier, but truly I'm clueless about these things
mdebord Posted February 28, 2013 Here's what I did in 2011: I took the PANCE, got married 2 weeks later, and then immediately applied for all of my licenses under my married name. Changing your name with the NCCPA is a piece of cake. Do you have a job lined up yet? All I needed when I started was my NCCPA cert and my state license. Employer paid for DEA, etc, so waiting didn't hurt anything.
PAruby Posted March 1, 2013 Author @ndebord - thanks! That's helpful. No positions lined up, just about to head out on clinicals, so I have a year left. Just wasn't sure how much of a hassle it would be. It's looking like I'll take the PANCE about 3-4 weeks before the wedding, so it will be similar to your time frame. You just changed it with NCCPA so your pance scores would be connected to your new name and that was it? Sounds much more simple than I thought, excellent news! Thanks
