PM2016 Posted February 24, 2013 So after searching through countless pages I was only able to find 2-3 threads that focused on the GRE. I'm stressing out about my test on thursday. For those of you that have taken the REVISED gre..how did you do? What did you study? Is any one else currently studying for the exam?? All of the schools that I am applying to require the GRE. I have a 3.7 gpa, not sure what my science gpa is but it did receive good grades in my science courses, and 1500+ hours of hce as a cna so far. I studied the kaplan book, memorized around 500 words, and studied the math review pdf on the ets website
Administrator rev ronin Posted February 25, 2013 Administrator You don't study for the GRE. If you did OK on your ACTs/SATs, you will do fine. If you didn't... you can spend money on expensive programs, or just accept the fact that your GRE may not be the strongest part of your application. It was the strongest part of mine, though, and I knew it would be before I took it: I knew my HCE was middling and my grades unremarkable, but I have always been a fantastic standardized test taker.
beattie228 Posted February 25, 2013 Rev Ronin is pretty spot on in that you don't study for the GRE in terms of how you would study for an anatomy or microbiology exam. Reading up on the ETS site how the essays are scored will help you better understand how to maximize your essay scores. I reviewed the math portions the week before because it had been a little while since I had used college math concepts. As far as the word banks, the revised version is set up to see how well you understand literature without having a need for prior knowledge on the material. Luckily for you, they did away with those awful crumb is to toast as blood is to _____ questions! Relax, take a deep breath, and recognize that competitive is not synonymous with perfect. Do as well as possible, and don't over think the questions. Most programs that require the GRE do so to either 1) make sure applicants really want to attend their program or 2) use the scores for a tiebreaker in the event they're needed. Overall GPA and sGPA are much more important than your GRE scores.
Lemon Bars Posted February 25, 2013 Sounds like you did a review already. I only got 50% of the questions right on my first practice math test for the GRE. I'd forgotten all about triangles and such. You'll probably be okay though.
