sithumini
1. Is there anything illegal about a new PA-C working at a Newly established primary care office, with minimal phone contact with MD? (Mostly middle aged patients, obviously no previous medical records/charts provided, MD signs off charts weekly) 2. How do I make sure they are billing at PA level and not MD level? bradtPA
1) generally speaking, it's fine. It's just not what I would recommend since you will miss out on learning from your SP since they are not on site. Rules differ from state to state, so check with the state your in if you need clarification. 2) have them bill under your NPI.
chatcat
1.) Just make sure you and your SP follow the state guidelines regarding supervision requirements.
Moderator EMEDPA Posted November 19, 2010 Moderator Share Posted November 19, 2010 Probably not a great first job. You want someone there to bounce cases off of for at least the first 2 yrs...just my opinion....not illegal, just not a great learning scenario.... JFarnsworth
I agree with brad and EMEDPA~I would have been scared pants-less to take a job like that right out of school.
primadonna22274
Illegal? Depends on the state. A new grad could not do this in SC. For that matter, SC wouldn't allow a seasoned PA to work in a remote office away from his/her SP for the first 6 mos of the PA-SP supervision agreement. Wise? Not very. You do not know what you do not know.
LESH
It depends on the grad. If the grad was a strong PA student with significant HCE behind them going into the program I might be able to support this. It also depends upon how your "delegations of services agreement" defines supervision (if you are in California). I have to agree with others it's far from an ideal job for a new grad. What makes you think there are billing issues?
LIPPER
I agree with EMEDPA. I declined an offer coming out, to work with a travel company providing in-home medical eval/care... would have had very little SP input and guidance...Should check with your state guidelines/criteria for off-site supervising. What makes you think there are billing issues? I am a little paranoid when it comes to my license, I think of worst case scenarios. Billing issue is something we were made aware of during rotations, in case PA services were billed at MD level, the PA is ultimately responsible or so they said. Thank you everyone for your input, I decided against this offer.
