Wondering what my chances are with these schools?

Recommended Posts

I tried searching the forum for a thread that gives responses to these questions and I didn't find one. If I missed it I apologize and you can move/delete this post if that is the case. I just wanted to get a quick opinion of what my chances might be applying to these schools or if there is anything I need to do to shore up my application for the 2013/2014 cycle. These will be my stats when applying, I have not taken the GRE but will be sitting for it in March.

I appreciate your guys' opinion and thanks for taking the time to read this!

Your GPA looks good. I think you should try to get at least 200 more hours of EMT experience because some schools might not count research or volunteer hours for HCE. 2000 hours is a common minimum HCE requirement for PA schools. I have heard that schools/employers are using software to sift through hundreds of applicants and you don't want a computer program rejecting your application because you were 200 hours short on HCE.

Most PA programs post application statistics on their websites, so you can see how you measure up.

Most I have seen (e.g. Duke, Iowa) say minimum 1000 hours. Do they set a 2000 hour minimum for acceptances or something? I know a few people who have been accepted to UNMC with no healthcare experience what so ever. But I think their admissions aren't as rigorous as others.

It really depends on what schools you are applying to... Many require less HCE but higher GPAs, while others require more HCE but aren't as strict regarding GPA. I'd do your research on what fits you best, both in GPA and HCE.
