scparker Posted February 8, 2013 Is that you can't please everyone. Here are my stats: Undergrad Ed School: Roanoke College Cumulative Undergrad. GPA: 3.6 Science Undergrad. GPA: 3.1 Age at application time : 22 1st GRE: 90th percentile, don't remember the score. Direct Patient Care : EMT-B, Nursing Assistant Schools Applied: Duke, Jefferson College of Health Sciences, Lock Haven, JMU, ECU, Wichita, Salus Application Submitted Date: Mid - June Interview Invites: Duke, Jefferson College of Health Sciences, Lock Haven, JMU, ECU, Wichita Denied: Salus Waitlisted: None Accepted: Duke, JCHS, and didn't go to other interviews. Now the weird part of that is that I got into Duke and JCHS and got interviews at allllll the other schools. After all that, I got a rejection letter from Salus. They didn't even want to interview me. Don't let rejections get you down. Everyone's looking for something different. You just have to find the school that's looking for you.
asdf Posted February 8, 2013 Hey scparker, congrats! How much experience did you have as a nursing assistant and as an emt
scparker Posted February 8, 2013 Author I had about 2,300 combined, 2,000 as an EMT and 300 as an NA.
glgkbh Posted February 8, 2013 I agree. I applied to 5 programs and received 4 interviews 3 at top ranked schools. I went to 2 interviews and was accepted to both schools. My home town school did not invite me for an interview. I chose to look at the bright side and realize I may not have been what they were looking for. I will be attending DUKE PA c/o 2015!!!!! GO BLUE DEVILS :)
glgkbh Posted February 8, 2013 Undergrad Ed School: University of AR for Medical Science Cumulative Undergrad. GPA: 3.3 Science Undergrad. GPA: 3.7 Post Bacc school: (if applicable) Several- needed 30 hours to apply Post Bacc GPA: (if applicable) 4.0 Science Post Bacc GPA: (if applicable) 4.0 Age at application time : 31 1st GRE: 300 2nd GRE: (if applicable) Direct Patient Care : (type & hours) Ultrasound tech 15,000 Extracurricular/Research Activities: Too many to list Schools Applied: Emory, GWU, DUKE, Barry University, Harding University Application Submitted Date: July Schools Received Application Date: (approximate date) Late Aug Interview Invites: GWU, Barry Univ, Duke, Emory Denied: Harding University Withdrew Application: Barry University Waitlisted: 0 Accepted: 2- GWU, Duke, interview left at Emory. As you can see I dont have a great GRE or a Great undergrad GPA. But I have heart and I know exactly why I want to be a PA.
asdf Posted February 8, 2013 thanks a lot for that. definitely gives perspective when i see current accepted students stats. you had a great science undergrad and postbac gpa as well as years of experience. congrats!
glgkbh Posted February 8, 2013 Asdf you can do it. If becoming a PA is what you want don't give up. I had to breathe and stop comparing myself to other people esp when it came to the GRE. Let who you are shine and why this is the profession for you. Hope that helps. :)
kabby Posted February 9, 2013 Thanks alot. This definitely helps to think positively. glgkbh did you get any vibe from any of the interviewers that they really liked you? Sometimes i try to think back to how my interview went to weigh my chances of acceptance.

glgkbh Posted February 9, 2013 Lol to be honest no. I went home and stressed about every answer how it could have been better or I wish I hadn't talked so much or been so open. The best advice I was given was be myself be honests and be nice. I tried to be very positive at my interviews and encourage the people who were interviewing with me. Be myself was really good advice you may not have the right answer to all the Questions but knowing that the program and the profession is a good fit for you helps a lot.
Juliakbran Posted February 14, 2013 yeah, I think my mistake was applying so late. I applied ON the deadline and got rejected from most schools with comparable stats to yours. Stupid stupid stupid (but I do have an interview at Emory--yikes!)
kabby Posted February 19, 2013 Hey guys, I need some advice. Is it worth trying to get in touch with programs via email after an interview? I tried it twice and didn't get any replies and am freaking out. Do you think its a bad sign?

I tried it twice and didn't get any replies and am freaking out. Do you think its a bad sign? A follow-up email or card right after the interview as a thank you is fine and then leave it alone for a while. Check back to see how things are going a bit further on.
