Mvalentine2419
I'm wondering how I am supposed to document shadowing hours for when I apply to programs. I have an excel spreadsheet with their name, the hours, the facility and the PA's email. Is there some "official" way to log those hours?
flyingsquirrel
Nope that's it. Just remember than shadowing does not equal HCE.
ktcan10
What about HCE? Does CASPA have an official form for documenting HCE, or do individual schools require a letter stating how many hours you've acquired?
PM2PA
HCE and shadowing hours are generally entered on the honor system. I can't really say that schools will actually try to trace your work history/HCE, but it sounds pretty ridiculous to me. It probably wouldn't hurt to have one of the PAs you shadowed mention the number of hours you shadowed in the LOR.

Mvalentine2419
Shadowing does count as HCE for some programs, right?
ktcan10
For some programs, yes, but not all of them. I would definitely make a point of checking with your programs individually. I know that most of my schools here in California view them as two different requirements.
pacman54
i had a question about scribe hours when it comes to documenting shadowing. Scribing is very similar if not the same as shadowing. Am i able to document thehours as shadowing hours? i guess the issue is thatscribes get paid, but the entire shift we get to observe the PA at work. PM2PA
It would be in your best interest to doing actual shadowing outside of work. I tried once to combine it and count both as one. The ADCOM didn't buy it.
