aerten
This may be a silly question, but I thought maybe some of you would have some good suggestions. I am trying to think of what would be a nice, little gift to give the PAs who are gracious enough to spend time letting me shadow them. Nothing too extravagant, just a little something more than a card to let them know how much I appreciate them. Any ideas? Thanks in advance... TThielen
Just a card is enough most of the time. A lot of the PA's you are shadowing will more than likely get credits towards CME.
Moderator True Anomaly Posted January 10, 2013 Moderator Share Posted January 10, 2013 Agreed that a card would be fine if you're so inclined. It does not count towards CME, though- at least not Category I CME, which is the one we're all interested in accruing. There's category II CME which is basically educational opportunities which aren't associated with a certificate, but I wouldn't consider having someone shadow me to be that. Personally, I've never received anything from someone who shadowed me, but I wouldn't say no to a good bottle of bourbon :D
kmkasubo
Hopefully during your shadowing time you got to know the PA well enough to know their hobbies, likes, etc. One of the PAs I worked with LOVED popcorn so I got her a little basket of popcorn seeds, salt, bowl and blockbuster giftcard. Another one was a bag of coffee for someone. I agree that nothing more than a card is needed, but I did work with her for a while. They will appreciate anything you give them I'm sure. Timon
I got the PA's I shadowed a thank you card, coffee travel mug and a gift card to starbucks.
hboisseau
I once dipped strawberries in chocolate for a PA I shadowed. He had a weakness for chocolate, strawberries were in season, our time was coming to an end, and it was his birthday that week. (I even drizzled white chocolate over the dipped chocolate, it looked pretty and everything-although I'm sure it wouldn't have mattered to him)
beattie228
I'm a big fan of giving Starbucks gift cards. I gave them in my Thank You cards to the folks who wrote my LORs as well. Most coffee and tea drinkers will gladly appreciate you flipping the bill for their $5 indulgence. It's not something that is necessary, though. A simple hand written thank you note or card goes a long way in and of itself.
marktheshark89
I gave mine a card and a Visa Gift Card (can be used basically anywhere).
kismet
I offered mine a thank you lunch. She loved it, we both had the opportunity to chat, and we had great food.
MokahFitChick
I like the lunch idea. A gift card would be nice too. I wouldn't only do a thank you card.

dumbledore
I gave mine a card and a package of green tea leaves with roasted rice (genmai cha). She loved it!
afecker93
For the gift cards, how much do you think is appropriate?
PM2PA
$25 is reasonable. I gave one PA a $25 card to Outback/Carrabbas which should show plenty thanks.
