JohnConner
UTHSC in Memphis, TN has been working on a PA program with a start date of January 2014. Here is the link: http://www.uthsc.edu/allied/pa/ Looks like a great program I'd be interested in applying to if I don't get in this cycle. I also have family roots in Memphis which is nice. Was just wondering if anyone else had their eye on this program?
JMann
I'll be applying. I live here in Memphis and work for the fire dept. as a medic so I was pumped see them starting a program here. Perhaps I'll be fortunate enough to get in. There is an information session on 2/22 FYI.
gducky5
I'm definitely interested in this program myself! Have you heard any buzz on their tuition thus far? I called a couple of weeks ago and they said they were still in the process of negotiating.
JMann
I haven't heard anything, but would imagine they would have standard in/out of state tuition like the rest of the UT system. I'll ask at the info session and post here if it is different.
cg02186
Has anyone heard anything about the application process? I looked through the website about a week ago and e-mailed the program asking when to apply and if it's through CASPA and such. They told me they would keep my e-mail on file and let me know when everything is set up. Anyone have different information?
JMann
I emailed and asked the same questions and got no reply back in Dec.
JoelleK
I may be mistaken but I don't think they can accept applications (and therefore, you would be unable to apply), until they have ARC-PA accreditation. They are not even on the schedule until September 2013 according to their website. My school didn't get final accreditation from the state until the end March last year and opened up the application cycle the same day they received official word. Not saying this is the case everywhere, but just some food for thought based upon my experience at my program. Good luck!
JMann
Good info there JKidder. With UT wanting to start class in Jan. '14, there looks to be a 4 month application/interview window at best. Could be an advantage to be local… who knows.

Could be an advantage to be local… who knows. Thanks JMann! Although, I am still not 100% certain if that is indeed the case at UT. Our school had to wait for a state accreditation even though they already had ARC-PA accreditation before they could open up to applicants. Our cycle opened the last day of March (I think) and we started classes July 2nd. Interviews were held starting the 2nd or 3rd week of April and lasted through the 1st week of June. It was a quick turnaround. Our class ended up being filled 2/3rds with those that were living within an 1-2 hours of the campus (multiple states - it is near a tri-state area where you can be in 3 different states within 10 minutes) and the rest from varying outlying areas and states. This year they had over 600 applicants from all over the country. Good luck to you! :-)

rocketpropelled
Thinking about it! Sad part is, I was born and raised in an underserved community in TN, have two degrees from the UT system, but I moved with the spouse to GA 2 years ago. So there's no credit for "massive in-state participation/tax paying" in the application process.
soxman352000
That's a bummer rocket propelled, I moved to Nashville a year ago from Illinois and love it. Looking forward to giving it the old college try.
JMann
I'll be applying. Sox, Memphis is A LOT different than Nashville just so you know.

soxman352000
Oh, I'm well aware... I did a travel nursing stint there. Lets just say after living in St. Louis for 6 years and then living in Memphis for 6 months, I know what to expect.

CYeshu
Did anybody submit their Caspa yet and does anyone know where to find the supplemental application?
pacman54
Did anybody submit their Caspa yet and does anyone know where to find the supplemental application? I submitted, but I haven't heard about the supplemental either.
CYeshu
I called today and Ms. Johnson (admission coordinator) said that the supplemental is for those who get accepted into the program. Also she said that she was going through applications right now. I was kind of confused about that because CASPA submits the first batch of applications this Friday... CASPA applications are available online to the schools after they are verified. Some schools look them over while others wait for the mailed version. gducky5
Here's what I've found out thus far about the supp: You will not complete the supplemental application until they have received your CASPA and everything checks out. I called twice and left two voice mails over the course of a week and they finally called me back today about it. They must be swamped getting this program up and running! rocketpropelled
gducky5: What number did you call? I've been trying to call the number listed on the website for a couple of weeks, and it rings and a recording says it's out of service....
CYeshu
I was told by Ms. Johnson that those who are accepted into the program are the only one who have to fill out a supplemental. It also says it on the website.
