IVPA98 Posted November 20 Hello! i'm a new graduate reviewing job offers at the moment. I was hoping for feedback on this one: its a CTICU / stepdown position that's very procedure heavy which I enjoy. Benefits are great, pay is great, only thing is they ask for 12 shifts/ month with 6 being overnights (wont start overnights until training is complete + there's a night differential). Is that considered a normal amount of overnights from a critical care standpoint, or excessive? I used to work overnights in the ER prior to school so i'm used to them, but not so much the back and forth between days and nights. Thanks! Quote
MediMike Posted November 25 Hard to say, what's normal somewhere is freakish and weird elsewhere. I personally work 99% nights for 10 shifts a month. My colleagues work a mix of all days/some days some nights/all nights as well, other shops I've been at would have nights open for OT or require like 13 a year or so. But again, everything is so location dependent. And for your question about excessive from a critical care standpoint...someone's gotta be there I'd ask for block scheduling so you're not switching around constantly. 1 Quote
