MediMike
Tawna, I'm sure we would all love that! As far as I know no one has heard anything from any others in your class, hearing support from a current student is a big help haha. If you can't make it then the best of luck to you all on your finals! With all these people I'm thinking we should hit Staples for those fancy lil' name tags... tstacy
Good Luck to all Yakima applicants who are interviewing this weekend. Remember they are looking for REAL people. Answer the questions honestly and be yourself. You have come this far, don't let anything stand in your way.

Winslow
I am flying into Seattle at 1:45 and renting a car for the drive into Yakima. I'd be happy to caravan with you, or anyone, to keep an eye on each other, if our timing meets up enough. Let me know.
Just Steve
Hi, I am coming a little late to the party. But, my name is Tawna and I am a first year student in Yakima and wasn't sure if anyone from my class has touched base with you guys. We have a "mentor-type" from the class ahead of us and it has been VERY helpful. He met us the night before interviews for a little informal Q&A, which went miles to help with the nerves (not really, but it sounds good:-)). Anyway, just wanted to say hello and offer any direction I can. I will also be at the interview site on Saturday morning to help with that. Reading this thread is giving me a little retro-anxiety, I know EXACTLY how you are all feeling right now. It's so exciting to see the next class coming in. Let me know if you have any questions. It will all be fine! I swear!!! If I can get to a this point, anyone can! Best wishes, Tawna Tawnab, I would have passed out low dose beta blockers but the pharmacy didn't like the script I wrote in crayon. To the rest of you interviewing...Breath. Smile. Breath. Smile. Breath. Smile. Breath. Smile....repeat ad nauseam. STOP OVER THINKING IT ALL!!!!!! You have been selected to interview based upon the information that you have already given them. They believe you can pass the program based on your application. The AdCom at this point wants to know if you are a person that they want to call a "peer" in the next few years. Can they work with you? Can you think on your feet? Do you fold like a cheap suit at the first hint of pressure because we know damn well when it's just you and the patient in the office and the patient asks a tough question, you CAN'T crumble even though you have no earthly idea what the hell they are talking about. That happens just about every day now that I'm in clinic. You know what I do? Smile, say "that's an interesting question..." take a breath and plan my answer. I can go with the truthful "I have no earthly idea" or I can go with "I think it's related to this, via that, because of...but I'll look it up to double check". I can't recall any interview question that had an absolute answer. Meaning there were no "what is the square root of 4?" style of questions. They were more like "Who is this, why are they important to you?" Or something along the lines of "tell me about your previous experience". THERE IS NO WRONG ANSWER! Breath, smile, and tell them what you already know. Make sense?
tstacy
Thanks Stacy for the tip! Any suggestions on how to curb the nerves so our real selves can shine through?[/quote Review your essay, know why you want to be a PA. Don't change your morning routine. If you iron in the morning.. still iron in the morning. Most importantly be open and friendly to everyone. Act like your looking for a new best friend. Put your best foot forward. Keep your meal light as you will be even more nervous the morning of the interview. TRY, TRY TRY to sleep and if you can't sleep at least rest. Again the best advice I can give any one is BE YOURSELF... don't try to figure out who you want. If you have been invited to interview, you have already beat out more than half the people that applied, and that was all on paper. In person is your time to shine.. GOOD LUCK. siskiyoufire
Well I'm certainty excited and looking forward to meeting all of you. I fly from Seattle to Yakima on the 30th and arrive around 1025. Staying in the holiday inn. Going to make the get together at 2nd street. Anyone else gonna be on that flight, or staying in the holiday inn? If so we should try to car pool to 2nd street? Ryan.

McMEDIC
Just a few words of wisdom... Hi y'all my name is Luke and like Tawna I am a first year student. I remember the stress, nerves and anxiety many of you are currently facing. Some of you maybe finishing out some prerequisites and studying for finals and others maybe working 60+ hours weeks trying to afford the plane ticket to fly out here... Don't worry, I was doing both. I just wanted to offer up one of the best tips I got from this forum before our interview last year... If you are flying into Yakima, I flew from GA to Seattle to Yakima the day before the interview, from the Seattle airport consider yourself AT THE INTERVIEW! Most of the people on the flight to Yakima, the day before, will be staff and administration from Seattle comming to Yakima to likely interview you. The person next to me when I went through TSA was staff, the person sitting next to me at the gate was staff, 7 people on my flight were staff and 6 were interviewers. Not aiming to stress y'all out more than you already are! Haha! BUT, that little tid-bit of info might just save someone from killing a chance and being judge before they even get an opprotunity to interview!! :-) Also, once you are in Yakima (flying or not) just pretend like you are at the interview... For those of you staying at the same hotel, expect that most of the MEDEX staff are staying at that hotel too. When you go out to eat, remember MEDEX staff eats too... For those east-coasters, like me, Yakima is a SMALL town... enough said. So congrats to all of you that have made it this far!!! You should be proud! I too will be at the interview on Saturday afternoon and might drop by 2nd street to help settle the nerves... see y'all soon, -Luke
