MicaiahVacc
Hello, I am currently in my clinical year and am trying to get my elective rotation in a rural/wilderness setting, as this is a field that I'm passionate about working in post-grad. I have experience in backcountry rescues, water rescues, etc during my time in EMS. I know places like Alaska are in need of PAs, NPs, etc..but so far I've had no luck on finding anyone willing or able to take on a PA student. If anyone knows of any leads that I might pursue, any help is greatly appreciated!
Moderator EMEDPA Posted August 27 Moderator Share Posted August 27 rural should be easy, wilderness near impossible. There are very few wilderness med jobs around and most are in Alaska(as you noted) or aboard ships or international. Tell your clinical coordinator you are interested in rural rotations in EM, surgery, or FP and they should be able to set you up.
Administrator rev ronin Posted August 29 Administrator Share Posted August 29 There's a lot of good wilderness CME that's easier to get than a wilderness medical rotation. You've already found https://wms.org/WMS/WMS/Attend/Electives/WM-Electives-Listing.aspx, right? Join WMS as a student if you haven't already.
