Licensing Board unresponsive

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I am just looking for some guidance on an issue I am having with my case manager at my medical board. I am in a unique position as I am a PA returning to the workforce after a 15 year hiatus. I have submitted all my required paperwork/documents/reentry plan as of mid April. I have secured a fellowship which begins in early August about which I am very excited. I have worked long and hard to be in a position to be awarded such an opportunity!

However, my contact person at the Board is rather unresponsive. Never replies to my emails or phone calls. My online profile kept showing as though I had many outstanding documents which had actually been received by the Board for a good month or more. So, I was reaching out to my licensing specialist to ask why they were still showing up as outstanding because it was very important that my application be considered at the June board meeting. After 3 weeks of crickets, she calls me on the phone. We discuss my application and she informs me that they do, in fact, have all the documents and my online profile should reflect that by the end of the day (It did). She also told me that as long as I delivered my scope of practice agreement by a certain day, my file would be considered administratively complete and I would be included on the agenda for the June board meeting. So, of course, I hand delivered said practice agreement immediately, well before deadline.

Imagine my surprise when on the day of the board meeting, I pulled up the Board’s agenda and my name was nowhere to be found. I watched the live stream meeting and my name was in fact not on the agenda.

I am so frustrated and fed up with my case manager as there is ZERO communication from her. I have been as nice and as patient as I could possibly be but I am becoming quite anxious that this person is in charge of my application. I feel she cannot be counted on and couldn’t care less about my circumstances. I worry that the fact I now have to wait another MONTH for the following Board meeting (if she does her job and gets me added to that agenda, that is) before being considered. And because I am not the average applicant (required to submit a reentry plan), if the Board deems there need to be any revisions to my reentry plan this could further delay my license. My main concern is whether this could impact my fellowship. This is a most ideal opportunity which will never come again and I cannot allow that to happen!

I have considered reaching out to her supervisor for help but wondering if this could be the wrong move and backfire? Aside from that what else can I do? I am at a loss and anxious as hell over it.

Any advice would be so greatly appreciated! Take good care y’all.

I live in the same city as the Medical Board. When I went through a time crunch with my initial certification, I made an appointment and stopped in. Seeing someone face-to-face often helps. Probably shouldn't be necessary but you are the one with the need and across the table is someone who seldom sees flesh and blood customers.

Might be worth a try.

This is correct advice, but it is so frustrating to have faceless bureaucrats stand in the way of professional practice: if there were actual concerns (and we're only getting one side of the story here, obviously) that would be a different thing.

Thanks UGoLong! I called and left a VM asking if I could possibly meet to discuss at her convenience. Haven’t heard back yet. Thank you for your suggestion!

Ventana, I couldn’t agree more and this has always been my approach despite the lack of responsiveness. I may have come off as snarky in my post but I was only venting to y’all out of frustration. But I appreciate your response and advice!

I've wasted a lot of time in my life complaining about how easy things should be but aren't. I'm trying to give up on thinking the world will have sorted all that out before I die.

If you have a phone number call it at least once per week, and be ultra professional and kind.... but stay on the top of their mind...
