Is mentioning my son going to the NICU in my personal statement a bad idea?

Recommended Posts

I’m hoping to write a captivating personal statement, as anyone would. The main thing that’s coming to mind as a hook is talking about how the providers I met when my son was admitted to the NICU were very influential to me. I’m not planning on discussing being a mom or anything like that—just that in a significant time of need, I was met by providers who demonstrated compassion and high quality care.

It is common to explain how you became interested in becoming a PA and that often involves some personal experience like yours. I see no problem with your planned approach. I would recommend making it personal and also not take too many of your allotted words.

Best wishes.
