Terminology

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I understand there's a mix of residencies and fellowships, even though they may be the same thing. For the legitimate residencies (not long-term onboarding), what did you call yourself/introduce yourself to patients, residents, and attendings while in training? PA resident, fellow, etc? Did your MD/DO colleagues care (or not) about this title? I imagine some are protective of the terminology.

Just a PA, there's no need to say that you are a resident or fellow...residents and fellows don't introduce themselves that way...if the patient asked for more information I tell them I'm in a 1 year post-graduate PA training program...I do not say I'm a resident/fellow....those terms have not been standardized for PAs and they can be confusing to patients

I just said my name, informed them I'm a PA working with the Attending physician. When you do a resume as a PA you are licensed as a PA. The hospital you are at are billing your services as a PA.

Right...PA residents are not house officers . We are fully licensed partitioners who are opting to do post graduate training. I don't even use the word residency to be honest.
