[TD=colspan: 2]General Program Description

The Department of Neurosurgery at RCRMC offers a 24- month postgraduate physician assistant fellowship program, with emphasis on all aspects of clinical and operative cranial and spinal neurosurgery. As a trauma center, and as the only County hospital in Riverside County, RCRMC Neurosurgery treats a broad range of pathologies. Because RCRMC also has neurosurgery residents, there already exists a culture of teaching and learning, with dedicated didactic sessions. The program involves exposure to neurosurgery clinics, wards, ICU, and OR. Candidates with six or more months of focused neurosurgery experience may be credited up to six months off the 24-month program, thus completing this Fellowship in 18 months; for the majority of traditional candidates, this is a 24-month program. The core curriculum includes:

Neuroradiology

Neurophysioloy

NeuroPharmacology

Neurological Exam

Neuroanatomy

Adult Critical Care

NeuroTrauma

Pathology specific teaching: CNS tumors, CNS infections, spine & spinal cord pathology

Throughout the entire fellowship program, there are also weekly reading assignments and formal lectures. Attendance at the formal lectures is mandatory and attendance will be taken. Formal lectures and Conferences consist of Neuroscience Grand Rounds weekly, Neuroscience Mid Level Lecture Series weekly, Brain Tumor Conference bimonthly, Neurosurgery Morbidity and Mortality monthly, and Neurosurgery Topics Conference monthly to bimonthly. By the end of this Program, the Fellow will be able to be an integral part of, and an asset for, any neurosurgical team.
