jkreilkamp
Hello all! My name is Joe Kreilkamp and I have been a PA for 5 years now. I work primarily in family medicine but also PRN in urgent care and sports medicine. My first year into working and out of PA school I developed a rare autoimmune disease, Dermatomyositis (you should look it up!) This sparked my interest in autoimmune disease and rheumatology. My question is, are there any PAs working in rheumatology out there? I’m sure there are. What did you do to learn more and become somewhat competent - CMEs, resources, etc. I have done the ACR CME course which was very good but I feel like I need more exposure. Thanks amazing colleagues! DD2PA
Hi I know this is an old post but hopefully you see it. I work in Rheum as a PA-C. Honestly, there’s still a lot of unknowns in Rheumatology but there’s nothing like first hand exposure. I had a 4 month shadowing period and slowly started seeing more complex patients just now 1.5 years in, my usuals are PSA, lupus and RA. We only have 2 dermatomyositis patients in our practice at this time, using access medicine, uptodate, and books given to me by SP is what I’ve used so far. Let me know if you have any other questions. Wishing you the best with this new diagnosis. Edited August 5, 2023 by DD2PA
