Hello folks -

Do PA jobs exist that are only 1 or 2 days per week? My husband and I plan to start a family near the time I graduate, and I want to raise our kiddos as much as possible. Just wondering if it exists and if not, would it be possible to decrease my hours after some time in a part-time position?

I'm a current 2nd year PA student so I don't know much yet about the job search.

Thanks in advance for any constructive and helpful comments! 🙂

If you negotiate for such a position, expect to get lowballed by unscrupulous hiring teams.  Not because you're a woman or starting a family... nononono, THAT would be illegal.  They'll just lowball you because they perceive you have limited room to negotiate.

So, I'd negotiate for a full-time job, work that job, then have your first baby and force them to either fire a new mom (they won't love THOSE optics) or allow you to work same wage at a lower FTE once you're back from maternity leave.

Is there a certain amount of time I need to put in at a job prior to changing FTE? (Especially as a new grad)

A year is great, but once you're hired, you're in the system.
