I applied back in May and assumed I was going to get denied after seeing that others had been interviewing that applied later than I did. I'm ecstatic as this is one of my top choices. The waitlist at every other program is strictly for those who have interviewed. I am thankful for the waitlist but I think this additional waitlist is the same as not hearing anything back during the cycle, you aren't invited and not yet rejected. There have been other current students responding, supporting the claim. If this is your only option, absolutely take it because getting in is what matters. That said, if you have other options... strongly consider them.
