Worth waiting to apply for GPA bump?

Recommended Posts

Applying this cycle. Currently enrolled in A&P2 and statistics to finish all coursework. Took statistics in high school but I understand most programs won't accept it. Is it worth waiting to apply when classes end at the end of June for the GPA bump or apply now with them pending? The main program I'm interested in is rolling admissions.

GPA now:
cGPA:3.49
sGPA:3.27

GPA end of June (assuming A's):
cGPA:3.52
sGPA:3.33

I understand it's a small bump, but not statistically insignificant. My concern is that freshman/sophomore year before I knew I wanted to do PA or anything at all really, I had a few C's in Chem 1 and trig/precalculus. Additionally, English major so I don't have a ton of science courses outside of pre-reqs. Wondering if continuing upward trend is worth applying later in cycle.

PCE: ~2250 hours collectively between EKG tech, MA at an occupational medicine clinic (work comp, traumas, labs, pre-employment), and MA at an ENT clinic currently working 50 hours a week.

LORs: MD I am the assistant to currently, a NP at ENT clinic, supervising PA from oc med clinic, and A&P professor.

Thanks in advance

I would definitely apply now! The sooner you apply, the more chances you have for an interview since schools have more available seats to fill. Once you are finished with your course, then you can email the school you applied for with the update on your course. It will also look good because it shows that you are continuing to work hard to get into PA school and hopefully make you stand out a bit for the admission committee. Good luck!

Don't schools have a cutoff below which they will not review an application....and it would be best to meet that cut off to be considered favorably? How does one get around something like this?

The OP noted that the program has rolling admissions. They still likely have a cut-off date but are reviewing applications on a continuing basis during the open period. All the more reason to apply now and update the grades as you go.
