hopefulmedictoPA
Preface: I am 4 credits away from graduating with my bachelor's. My cGPA is fine (well above 3.0), but my weakness is my "overall" science GPA (around an embarrassing 2.35). Long story short on why is because I took a few bio and phys classes around 10-12 years ago and got C's, D's, and an F. I have plenty more science classes I need to take, which will bump up my science GPA if I do well, but I'm not sure if it's enough. My main dilemma is: I'm a paramedic, I went to paramedic school about 9 years ago through a program that is "affiliated" with the University I go to. I was told my paramedic schooling would go toward my transcript (by the program and by the university), but wasn't guided very well on how: After Paramedic school, I spoke to the advisor of the university and he told me I can't add the program to my transcript because I didn't "apply to the major" before going to paramedic school. I did my best (with the help of my major advisor) to get him to recognize it, but he said no. So, I am 4 credits away from graduating and that's WITHOUT my paramedic on my transcript. I checked CASPA, and they recognize paramedic grades toward their science GPA. So basically, if I can get my paramedic credits on my transcript my science GPA wouldn't be a problem at all. I excelled in paramedic school. The director who denied the recognition is the "EMS program director" for the university, and isn't even the dean of the health + kinesiology department. So my question is... Is it worth trying again to set up a campaign to get my paramedic on my transcript? Seeing as it could be what makes or breaks me getting into PA school? If so, what are some strategies on setting up this campaign? I need expert advise. I plan on contacting the dean, but I want to do it with the best approach possible. Moderator EMEDPA Posted April 22, 2022 Moderator Share Posted April 22, 2022 I was in a similar situation back in the day. I had a 4.0 in my medic program and was the class valedictorian, but did not get to have it on my transcript as it was a certificate, not degree-granting program. Fortunately, back in the early 90s , PA programs focused on health care experience and could see past my college GPA of around 3.2-3.3. UGoLong
How about contacting the medic school and asking for their transcript?
hopefulmedictoPA
UGoLong, I thought about it and am going to attempt to contact the program I got my cert through. I do know they don't have a paramedic program anymore, but still have EMT classes. It's a family owned independent business.
