Average GPA and re-reqs for acceptance into PA school.

Recommended Posts

As of right now, my cumulative GPA is a 3.3 with a 3.8 in "non major requirements". When I was younger I didn't take school as serious, which is making me worry now, as I am more mature and focused on schooling.

I was wondering if any classes outside of pre-reqs will be detrimental for my acceptance into a PA program. I have two classes that I have received a C in (both math courses) that are not required for many PA programs such as Calculus. I plan on retaking Stats to get a better grade on my transcript. Also an EMT-B course that is 7 credits, possibly getting a B in that class after this current semester. If any of these grades bring my overall GPA down will it be a huge factor into acceptance?

Are there any recommendations as to what I should/can do to possibly make this better? I'm currently getting B+ within my science courses hoping to bring them up, and my GPA as well.

Will more hours of PCE, letters of recommendation, shadowing and also volunteer work make up for a slightly lower GPA than the average?

Please let me know, thank you!

I had roughly an overall 3.3 and got accepted. I think if you show growth and have more PCE and great letters of rec you still have a chance. I had two letters of rec from doctors, one from a pa and two from teachers i was really close to who could speak on my character. I also had over 2000 hours of paid healthcare work. A great personal statement really helps too and allows you to explain your grade struggles! hope this helps.

Don't be discouraged by the "average GPA" people always talk about. I did bad in undergrad but have gotten all A's and B's in PA school. There's far more things to show someone will be a great student and provider than an undergrad GPA 🙂

Thank you for the reply. I really appreciate this and it definitely helps out with what I was asking. I will keep pushing through and hopefully this all happens for me soon! Good luck with everything and again, thank you.

Im glad! i really hope i was able to help some! You totally got this, it's worth it in the end. Keep on pushing and don't give up. You'll do great!

I actually think i had a 3.27 and had to repeat chemistry twice cause i had a D 😅 so really DO NOT be discouraged by others GPA stats. I know I was, but they deff take into consideration everything about you. If you take extra courses and do good, thats always a plus. I started off bad but ended my last year in school with all As my last two semesters. As long as you can show growth.  Good luck on your journey! 🙂
