Pay for being on call

Recommended Posts

So, I’ve been a PA for 12 years. For the first time, I’m interviewing for a position where I’d be on call at nights and on weekends (rotating with another person).  What is a reasonable rate for call for a week night and for weekends? I’m sure locality matters - job is in Delaware, but any data is helpful. When I was in the Pac NW, my friends on call got 250/ weekend. That included phone calls and going into the hospitals. This is just handling whatever situations are called in, not going to the hospitals. So far 🙂

I work in Neurosurgery at a Level 1 trauma center in Central Florida. I get paid $900/call shift which on weekdays is 3pm-7am. On weekends the pay is the same but is a 12hr shift 7a-7p or 7p-7a depending if you're night or day. This involves being at the hospital, and possibility of emergent procedures such as EVDs or emergent surgery.

Day call on weekdays is part of base salary because it's considered normal working hours but you're only focused on call and nothing else 7a-3pm.
