Anyone gotten mad at a patient on COVID vaccine discussion??

Had a first for me today

no idea of stars aligned or what but had a young elderly male in the office with complaints

no PCP - doesn't seek care and denies needing any in spite of never having colonoscopy, and no health maintenance in years

manage his complaint

ask him about COVID vaccine, and it begins.  Short of it is for some reason this gentleman got me up and I terminated the visit and asked him to leave.  Very atypical for me to do this, but wondering if anyone else has this experience???

Several of my colleagues have been screamed at for bringing up the vaccine.

I have had to terminate at least one phone appt due to the abusive nature of the patient when discussing COVID in general or COVID vaccines.

An unfortunate number of folks are still calling it the China Virus or Wuhan Virus and being derogatory about it -

it's a hoax, not that many people died, I have rights, on and on and on and on.

One guy is 100% convinced that Bill Gates invented the virus to control the population, make money off vaccines and put control devices in the vaccine.

I educate, use numbers, print graphs, whatever it takes.

Some have become derogatory. I state clearly that "I WILL NOT FIGHT WITH YOU ABOUT THIS."

"I have given you advice based on science. If you choose to pursue it - that would be good. Let's move on to your blood pressure and cholesterol."

A patient on a "mab" drug for migraines just asked for a letter excusing them from the vaccine stating folks on those meds can't have live vaccines. I replied with the statement that it is NOT a live vaccine, please get it. No letter is applicable. Thank you.

I am worn out, beat down and so disappointed in human beings right now it is hard to do this each day.

Science is dying. Politicians are killing science. Humanity is at its worst. I don't like many people right now.

I take a deep breath and wear my mask and do it all over again.

I don’t get mad over the vaccine, actually.  I just document it.  I do get mad, and this is the sad part, that they come back, again and again, without trying anything to begin with, or not doing what I told them.

I had a guy literally yesterday, who lost 50 pounds, bp disappeared, prediabetes disappeared.  I was floored.  I asked him what he did.  He said “ I started taking my life seriously “. So there you go.  If you can’t take your life seriously I can’t help you.

I'm going to require Covid-19 vaccination of all new patients at my practice.  I'd rather assemble a panel of patients who take my advice than get a larger panel of folks influenced by nutty pseudoscience.

It's harder for me to not get mad at the staff that don't vaccinate.  I have to work with them every day, knowing that they make their living from healthcare science but yet live in defiance of science and instead make selfish decisions that aren't even right on the risk assessment.

This!!!  I'm very frustrated with nurses who won't vaccinate - though 1 tonight did so at the recommendation of his endocrinologist.  He had had COVID-19, so at least he does have that immunity.  I confess I am puzzled as to how immunity conferred by vaccine is stronger than that conferred by the disease.

I've had a few of these pontificating A-Holes pretending to be patients, long before COVID-19. I let them know to come back when and if they actually want appropriate care.

Probably not the degree you're referring to, but I've had a few.  One recently showed up on my Press Ganey as a "mixed comment" saying that I was a good provider, excellent exam, etc. but I needed to "shut up about the vaccine."  "He is obviously knowledgeable, but I'm more knowledgeable because I'm an (name redacted, same hospital employer] nurse!"

We live in a weird world.

This made me think of a quote attributed to Hippocrates:

"Before you heal someone, ask him if he's willing to give up the things that make him sick."

Anyway, I've found that as time has gone on since the vaccines were introduced the hostility I get to asking seems to increase.  Some do seem receptive to hearing more information.  Some have even had really good questions they want answered before getting it.  More and more, however, the frequency and intensity of the hostile responses to my asking is concerning.

The majority of my patients are refusing to get the vaccine.  I find it baffling when they says thing like "it hasn't been tested enough."  Really?  164 million fully vaccinated people just in the US isn't enough for you?  My patients are all coming to me for their opiate addiction, so I'm thinking things like "so how many clinical trials do you think your dealer did before selling you that fentanyl laced with animal tranquilizers?"  But they keep injecting who knows what into their veins while refusing the vaccine because the vaccine is "too dangerous."

My supervising physician refuses to get vaccinated because God told him not to, as a test of his faith.  Any deity that requires one to prove one's willingness to kill people by spreading a deadly disease is not a deity I want to follow.

Welcome to the evangelical community.  Just read this morning that over 25% straight up refuse to be vaccinated.  Pro-life?  Right....

Ask them: if they think is experimental, how do they feel about being the control group?

Had this conversation with an anti-vax NURSE in the ED yesterday. It didn't go well. I guess I just assumed nurses would be on board with a proven vaccination, so when I mentioned out of pt earshot that getting the vaccination was like an IQ test and failing to do so without a good reason was natural selection she got offended.....probably didn't help when I compared vaccine hesitancy to the dangers of fire extinguishers in your house during a fire....🤣

PS I am refusing to take students who are unvaccinated.

I got the vaccine the second week it was available.  I would have gotten it soooner except I had gotten another vaccine-tdap- two weeks earlier.  I hear a lot of people say , when discussing their various maladies, they are “fighting it”, “or “trying to it kick it”. Exactly how, I want to say.  How, exactly, are you fighting it?  I mean, aside from coming to me and expecting me to fight it for you?

the one, immutable fact is that we are all going to die.  It’s not morbid, we shouldn’t hide from it and we shouldn’t actively run from it.  I feel, my self, that I will stand and face it that I, indeed, did something to fight.  It can come for me, but it’s going to have on hell of a fight.

ps does anyone know how to activate the tracking on it?  I’d like to be able to locate myself on google maps.  On my phone.  That’s stuck to my magnetized forehead.

I can pick up Sirius XM in my molars now.........................

Deep sigh

I got the vaccines when work offered them. January/February

The idea of NOT dying from COVID and not ending up intubated in the ICU - that was quite enough for me to get the vaccine - protect my kids, protect my hubby and protect my patients.

A person yesterday refuses vaccines and refuses to wear a mask stating their "neurologic conditions" prevent them from wearing a mask without irritation. One of my colleagues, a specialist, wrote said patient a letter ok'ing no mask.

I am stunned, disappointed and grumpy.

This same patient kept asking me to take my mask off to make them more comfortable.......... Ummm, NO

Not sure how to make it clear that NO MASK is not really a true option for 99.9% of the population.

My grumpiness is now supporting the idea that those not vaccinated need to stay home.

I would like to like folks again.

Do you work in a small cboc?  Our place is very strict on masks and screening- no mask, no entre.  You should have told told them it would make you more comfortable for them to put the mask on.  Most people don’t wear it right anyways.  That metal piece at the top?  BEND IT OVER YOUR NOSE.

Tell your rn you won’t see them without a mask.  They can arrange a video appointment, phone, or go to the Ed.  (Or, you know, put the mask on).  It’s no different than wearing pants.  I wear pants. I hate how I have to wear pants.  But I somehow manage to do it.

Don't blame the patients, blame the press.

Nope. There is plenty of good information out there. People are willfully ignoring it.

That's not to say that these a#&$ole talking heads and whackjob "influencers" on social media shouldn't be held liable for preaching their BS of course...

Ideas propagate along social networks--and I'm not talking about Facebook.  That needs to be taken into account--that there's social pressure for belief systems to conform to those of one's family, friends, and neighbors.

Doesn't excuse one's actions or decisions. May explain them, but does not validate.

Mass media and government (and before someone gets preachy, I mean both parties) have been manifestly so dishonest and sensationalized so much crap, neither has much credibility with "normal" people any more.

1.  I think you are a smart guy.

2.  I think you know what network x 1000 has been anti-vac...and that is Fox News.  CNN and MSNBC have not been anti-vac.  Every host on Fox News after 5pm has been.  Period.  If you don't see that then I don't know what to say.  Either you are not watching or willful ignorance is at play.

3.  I think while you have issues with CNN and MSNBC you can not in good conscience accuse them of being anti vaccine.

People (mostly evangelicals) at this point are hateful anti-American pro-life.  They don't give two shits about their neighbor, only some perveeted sense of FREEDOM!!!  Even if it kills their neighbor.  That is Tucker, that is Ingram, that is Gutfield and that is Hannity.... That is Fox News.
