Moderator EMEDPA Posted May 23, 2021 Moderator Share Posted May 23, 2021 https://careers.state.gov/work/foreign-service/specialist/career-tracks/medical-provider/ I have friends who do this. It's a great job, especially as a bridge to retirement.
deltawave
Job posting expired 23 March, but damn that’s a cool gig. I read the whole announcement even though I’m not even remotely qualified. Makes me want to do big things, so that I can get a sweet job like this in 20 or so years. Guess I’m going to get that doctorate in assisting a physician... My friend currently doing it has 3 kids with 2 under 10. They travel with you unless it is a conflict area. 1
sas5814
I actually applied for a state dept job right after COVID kicked off. They had a freeze in their process because so much of it is in person. They started calling me 14 months after I applied. Juuuuuuuuust a little too late Edited May 24, 2021 by sas5814

Yes, because the young single folks snap them up because they pay more. State dept assignments are based on seniority and a wish list format. First assignment generally Africa or eastern Europe. Second generally south America. After that, you have a pretty good chance of getting what you asked for as many folks just do it for a few years as a bridge to retirement. My friend did Niger then Tajikistan, then Berlin, and is now in Cairo.
