PASPIN
I'm thinking about relocating and doing research on PA pay and cost of living in different states. Tell me where you live and pay vs cost of living. I have 2 young kids so looking for a family friendly place. I was looking at Colorado but it seems like the pay is low compared to the COL. Also, not a new grad... Thanks for any info. Administrator rev ronin Posted May 9, 2021 Administrator Share Posted May 9, 2021 I really like the NON-Seattle/Bellevue parts of Western Washington. Good practice laws, decent climate if you don't mind rain, lots of everything to do. Housing costs are always a little bit less ridiculous than California, but again... move off the beaten path and you can handily drive back to the denser cities, but find good respect and good pay in the outlying areas. 1
CAAdmission
Can you at least narrow down to an area of the country that interests you? Climate you like? Non-PA activities you like?
ANESMCR
High pay, low col. Looking at the mountain west. Can’t go wrong with New Mexico.

But in terms of jobs, there are typically more in NM as long as you aren’t hell bent on working in Santa Fe.
sas5814
First bravo on the open mind and willingness to move! It is hard sometimes to help folks who ask "why can't I find a job in pediatric transplant surgery in Dallas as a new grad?" If you want low COL and family friendly look at rural and underserved areas. They WANT you, will generally pay well particularly compared to COL, and you can have a lot of autonomy and be respected and appreciated. There may not be a Starbucks on every corner but if you can get to a WalMart Super Center you'll be fine. It's also generally a good place to raise a family. This advice is for primary care only.
iconic
Reminds of an interview I did at an Adventist facility; the lady spent so much time talking about God before switching the convo that expected patient load is 30 pts a day..
CXPAC
I heard PAs getting paid relatively well in TX and COL is low comparing to a lot of states. Maybe worth of doing some research?
Joelseff
For a PA... You can't beat Utah right now!
