noiseordinance
Hello. I'm a junior at Portland State looking to shadow a PA. I'm not sure if it matters, but I am a CNA and would love to buy someone lunch or a Starbucks gift card of something of the like. Please respond or PM me if you are interested in helping this aspiring pre-PA. Thank you much, Sean
Administrator rev ronin Posted September 24, 2010 Administrator Share Posted September 24, 2010 With OHSU and Pacific here, I understand the PDX area is pretty saturated with PAs. Have you tried other means of finding someone to shadow?
marilynpac
Your state PA assoc should have a list of names of PAs who shadow. Go to their website, request the list, send out emails to the PAs in your area. It doesn't give their specialty but it will give emails and usually phone #. When you email to ask if they are interested in shadowing you then ask what they do.

noiseordinance
I contacted the Oregon Society of PA's since I couldn't find anything on the website. I provided my email address and they will e-mail me info.... *fingers crossed.*
marilynpac
Good luck and don't forget to ask for LORs...they'll be invaluable.
noiseordinance
Just updating this thread. If anyone out there has time to provide a shadow opportunity in the Portland, Oregon area, I'll buy lunch. I've tried calling / emailing clinics that hire PA's, contacted the local PA school, and contacted the state PA association to no avail. Thanks :)
marilynpac
Thank you noiseordinance, that makes two state PA assoc that do not have a list of PAs who shadow. One is AZ, and now OR. The PAs in these states should call these chapters and demand they start a list. There's no excuse for this.
zbowman
Im here in Oregon too and have had success with one shadow from a past connection. However, I have been trying for others and have not found any success. Have you tried to stop in at local offices? Where are you planning to apply? gr8ful1
I contacted the local chapter as well (Oregon), and no luck. I started searching through providers covered by my insurance company, and will start calling the PA's. I work in a hospital, so have had one PA who has agreed to let me shadow him, but I doubt he has time to write letters...Stay in touch, may be we can all meet as we are local. gr8ful1
gr8ful1, where do you work? what do you do? PM Sent. rev is right, every PA I have called so far has either told me that they only allow PA students/medical students, or that their organization does not allow students to shadow them.
