MarieH
Hello! I am an undergraduate student looking to pursue a career as a Physician Assistant. One of the areas that I am very interested in is OB-Gyn. My question is, are PA's allowed to deliver babies? Also, what kind of things does one do as a PA in OB-Gyn? Thank you! DiggySRNA
This is largely state and facility-based. PAs' training and education includes how to safely deliver babies but it is up to whether or not the facility allows PAs to be the sole provider during vaginal births. Moderator EMEDPA Posted April 10, 2021 Moderator Share Posted April 10, 2021 There are also postgrad programs in obgyn for folks passionate about the discipline and facilities that will credential PAs for all ob care, stopping only at the point of entering the OR alone

kbsunshine13
How does one know if their state allows PAs to deliver babies? I am in TX and have an opportunity to be trained in OB and cannot find anything restricting me from doing vaginal births…. Was wondering if anyone else knew or where I can find out? GetMeOuttaThisMess
My patented answer is to read the state legislative guidelines (as opposed to trusting random responses on a forum). I’ll save you some time and say that Texas removed the “you may not do…” decades ago, also known as the “Three Commandments” (pre-licensure days). It is essentially left to your SP/institution. I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting unless you’re assisting on a C-section or REALLY out in the sticks such as Marfa/Webster Co..
