Hello, just want to ask PAs who are currently working in/or previously in academia. What are your thoughts? Pros and cons? How does a PA get their foot started in academia.

Background: I am currently practicing in Allergy/Immunology with ER experience as well. I graduated in 2019 in a different state than where I am currently practicing, so connection around the area is limited.

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated

Yeah what he said.  My alma mater just recently transitioned the role from a "lecturer" or "senior lecturer" to some sort of teaching professor, but the compensation didn't change to my knowledge, just the title.  The amount of bureaucracy that goes into it is pretty significant as well.  Also be aware that many programs will put an FTE restriction on outside work, when I was discussing a position you were allowed 0.2 FTE of outside clinical time.

I absolutely love teaching but becoming clinically irrelevant isn't part of my game plan. I'll stick with the paramedic students, they're more fun anyways.

Would suggest getting your Master's if you don't already, could consider a DMsc w/ an education focus?
