kgsurf
Hello, I graduated May 2019 with a BS in Bio and my cGPA was 3.01. Since then I have been retaking classes and have raised it so far to a cGPA 3.27 and sGPA of 3.18. I have just above 1000 hours of PCE working as a back office MA. I know my GPA is low, and my PCE is low as well. I'm continuing to work on raising my cGPA and sGPA and gain more PCE/HCE. If anyone could give a brother some wisdom, would you recommend a Post-Bacc? Consider applying to nursing school then bridge to PA (I appreciate the medical model in which PAs are educated under rather then becoming a NP)? or continue hammering out classes at CC's while working as a MA? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
UGoLong
Maybe hammer out the classes and see if you can get a more front line patient care job.
Jaw67PA
Hey there, I was in a similar position when I applied to PA schools this cycle. I graduated undergrad with a GPA of 2.9 and retook classes/took additional classes at a CC while working full time for about 2-3 years and brought my cGPA to a 3.21 and my sGPA to a 3.31. I have a bit more PCE than you, about 2050 hours (at the time I submitted my apps) working as an MA and a volunteer EMT. I applied to 20 schools this cycle and so far I have received 4 interview invites, 2 acceptances, and 2 rejections. I think that you are on the right track, so the nursing school route is unnecessary in my opinion. If I were you, I would continue to gain more hours as an MA. If you can get to over 2000 hrs you will be in a much better position, but the more hours the better! I would also retake any science course you got a C+ or below in and also try to take some upper level science courses to help boost your science GPA and show that you can handle harder coursework. If you do these things and apply smartly and broadly, you stand a good chance at getting accepted.
ANESMCR
Agree with the above. Not necessary to change your job right now. I honestly wouldn’t even retake classes. If anything take new classes like endocrinology, immunology, etc. You didn’t mention having already applied to PA school. If you’ve already taken your GRE, you should be applying to schools right now. Edited September 18, 2020 by ANESMCR
Anm3e
Hello! I am in a very similar boat to you except that I graduated a while ago and have accrued lots of PCE in the interim. I reached out to a school I was very interested in to see if it would be more beneficial to retake classes that I earned a C in or take new classes that might be more helpful in PA school (pharm or pathophysiology). The adcom at this particular school said that I should retake anything with a C first. I hope this helps you! Also, if you have a particular school in mind, I would recommend reaching out to them as every program is different.
