D grade in Biochemistry a big deal?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm applying to some schools but I have been very worried about my D grade in Biochem. I took it my last semester so I wasn't able to retake it before applications. I know most schools I've seen just have this as a recommended course, at least the ones I am looking at.

Aside from this one, my prerequisite science courses that are required is at a 3.7 GPA (API & II, Chem I&II, OChem, Micro, etc...). I'm just worried they're going to see this grade and instantly turn away. It was a tough semester with our courses switching online and it was tough to teach myself a course like this.

Do you guys think this would be a big deal?

Have a good, brief answer ready about the grade. If you have a 3.7 overall in science you will probably still be considered.

I don't know the timing of things (i.e., when your PA programs begin, etc) but consider retaking the class before the program starts, if possible. That shows you pick yourself up and don't give up when things don't go your way.

Hi!

I will say, if it's a mandatory one, it's gonna be a problem. If it's not mandatory prereq, then not a problem at all.

However, even though CASPA says that it's "locked" or whatever, you can still add courses to the list! There's a biochem class at doane that's a VERY easy A online. If you need more info, let me know and shoot me a DM. Most schools let 1-2 prereq be "in progress" so if you are willing to retake it online, I don't think it will work against you but will at least will help you show that you can remediate this!
