nathang
Here's my stats: cGPA: 3.49 sGPA: 3.85 Last 60 hours GPA: 3.68 PCE: 5000 hours (Medical Assistant in Internal Medicine and PCT in a Burn ICU) Pre-reqs: English Composition, College Algebra, Psych Persp/Human Behavior, Develop of the Adolescent, General Chemistry, Organic and Biological Chemistry, Intro Stats, General Psych, Medical Terminology, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology 1, Anatomy and Physiology 2, Genetics Shadowing: 40 Hours shadowing a critical care PA, 8 hours shadowing MD, 8 hours shadowing NP LOR: MD I work with as an MA, PA I've shadowed for 40 hours, professor of my genetics class GRE: Taking on June 5th, but the practice exams I've taken on Magoosh I've scored between 307-311. Taking Microbiology as a summer course right now. Considering taking another chemistry course in the fall if needed. I have a bachelor's degree in emergency management. My grades were not good my freshman year of college due to a bad break up that exacerbated some mental health issues. I got a 2.0 my first semester and a 3.0 my second semester--including C's in English, College Algebra, Psych Persp/Human Behavior, and Development of the Adolescent. However, after I got help for my severe depression, I quickly turned things around. I got a 4.0 the very next semester and have gotten A's and B's since then--a stark upward trend. Since graduating, I've taken some pre-reqs at community college and I've gotten A's (high A's, too) in all of the science courses since undergrad (Biology, A&P 1, A&P 2, and Genetics). My experience in the burn ICU I feel is pretty unique as I was tasked with burn dressing changes which is a very intense, challenging experience, but I enjoyed it. I have leadership experience and volunteer experience through my fraternity and volunteering for NAMI (mental health organization). I have 7 schools on my list to apply to right now. Hope to submit CASPA by June 15th. Thoughts? (FYI I'm in a much better place now with my mental health. My depression is much more controlled since I found the right medication and received CBT) Edited May 14, 2020 by nathang
dukkulisur
I think you would be competitive for most programs. You have PCE, letters of recommendation from professionals working in the field, shadowing experience, and an acceptable GPA. You might want to check each program's website to compare your GPA to that of other applicants (they usually include this information for prospective students) just to see where you stand. But I think with a good personal statement you definitely sound like someone who would be invited to interview. Good luck!
