orthotech
So here's my question.....I'm wondering whether or not I should fork out $400 bones for a PANCE review course (the one I'm thinking of is OHSU in Portland)? -I've got a study plan that includes the AAPA study guide, possibly Kaplan's Qbank, and roughly 6 practice tests (from my program, pacrats, and the NCCPA practice test). -I feel like I have plenty of time to hit it hard which I plan on doing. I scheduled my PANCE for a week and a half after I graduate in late August. I can't afford to wait another month to study after i graduate. Are these live courses basically just review lectures that are designed to hammer home the stuff I already know or are they going to teach me something magical to make sure I pass the boards? Do they expect an attendee to study for a while after the course before taking the boards. I know OHSU has like a 100% pass rate which is amazing! But as I'm sure many of my fellow students can relate to, I'm extremely poor right now (top ramen is my hero). I'm definitely not looking for an excuse to not study because I'm going to put the time in. And I'm certainly not trying to belittle these courses. Any thoughts/experiences/advice would be helpful. I know there are plenty of PANCE strategy posts all over the forum so I'm not looking for that, just opinions from those who have gone before me. Thanks folks! Moderator EMEDPA Posted June 13, 2012 Moderator Share Posted June 13, 2012 when pance included physical exam practicals it made sense to take a course. don't know that it does now unless you feel way behind in your preparation.

andersenpa
You are still in school, all the information is fresh in your mind Everyone get snaxious about the PANCE I would stick with the review books and practice exams The course sounds like too much money for an exam which you are most likley going to pass

joanna.nola
I'm doing the UMDNJ course which you can do online. There are lectures and powerpoints. I've gone over a few (haven't graduated yet--plan a solid month of studying post-grad) and it seems to hit the blueprint hard w/o extra stuff, so I'm liking it. If you can get 10 or more students at your school to sign up, you get a discount and it's only $176 or something. I think it is $250 if you are student/recent grad otherwise. If you are able to direct your own studying, this seems like a cheaper option than traveling, paying for lodging etc. (I considered Chicago course since it got the best reviews; I'm saving that for the PANRE!) joanna.nola
But I also agree with folks on here. The key is TONS of questions, so a qbank or some of the books is essential. I also plan on doing a BUNCH of those while going over lectures.
