Apriori
I work in an ED with coronavirus cases starting to ramp up. Can my employer require me to be available for on call backup coverage over the next 4-6 weeks with no additional compensation? I don't see anything outlined in my contract. I want to help out as much as possible but at the same time I know things are gonna get rough and I need time off to recover.
Moderator EMEDPA Posted March 25, 2020 Moderator Share Posted March 25, 2020 we came up with a call schedule , but will get paid if we come in. straight pay. I may do 348 hrs next month if I am called every day I am on call. our call is for both extra coverage on busy days and sick coverage if one of us gets it. Administrator rev ronin Posted March 25, 2020 Administrator Share Posted March 25, 2020 Why don't you just say "no" and see what happens? If they fire you, you've got plenty of other opportunities. You are not an indentured servant, and working to the point where you're going to make a PPE mistake and die benefits no one.
GetMeOuttaThisMess
If you’re an exempt employee, yes, they can request this of you without altering compensation if salaried.

Moderator ventana Posted March 25, 2020 Moderator Share Posted March 25, 2020 Tough spot i would just state you will do it for 100/day to be on call and 1.5 time to come in they are generating more revenue when you work. You should be paid more. We are the backbone of medicine course you might get fired
