Guest RDtwoPA
So Drexel's page reads: "Training sites during the clinical year are provided by the program and are located throughout Pennsylvania and the United States. Students are welcome to identify and assist in the development of up to two clinical rotation sites and/or one 10-week primary care practicum site. (These sites must have PA Program approval.) Students are required to relocate during the clinical phase and are responsible for all associated financial costs, including transportation and living expenses." Any info on how far flung clinical sties are. When they say "required to relocate" are they talking about to Philadelphia. Would they have you in one location for the duration of the clinical phase or is their an expectation that you may need to move between rotations. Does this have to do with Drexel losing Hahnemann university hospital? Any info is appreciated thanks!
strivingfortheC
Hello, I am a current PA student at Drexel. At Drexel, you are required to do six 5-weeks clinical rotations, and two 10-weeks primary care practicum. You are able to set up 2 clinical rotations and 1 practicum anywhere you would like, provided that you find a preceptor that agree to have you as a student. The remaining rotations will be assigned to you from Drexel's extensive list of rotation sites that they already have. Drexel has clinical sites in Philadelphia, but also has sites in other states as well. During the rotations, you are required to pay for transportation (flying there and back, driving to the clinical site), housing (finding and paying for a place to stay near your clinical site), and any other living financial costs during your rotations. You are also required to fly back to Philadelphia at the end of each rotations to take your EOR exam (there are exceptions to this that you will learn more about once you reach that point). While Hahnemann Hospital closing was a big loss for Drexel, it affected the PA program very minimally. The program only lost about 5% of their clinical sites, meaning there are tons of other clinical sites that Drexel has within the city and in other states. Regardless of whatever school you choose to attend, most likely the clinical phase is very similar to this, in which you are required to pay and figure out living and traveling during your clinical rotations.
