I emailed the school about the waitlist ranking, and they are not letting waitlist candidates know where they are on the list as of right now.  No word on if that will change after interviews are done and slots are filled.

Just looking for any updates with UVU. 🙂 Has anyone from the September interview been accepted?

I was waitlisted in August, but haven’t had any updates about waitlist status. Do you guys think it’s possible to find out about waitlist ranking now? I’m also wondering how many people have been accepted from the waitlist so far.

Congratulations to those who have been accepted and good luck to those that have upcoming interviews interviews at other schools. 🙂

Does anyone know if the school got accredited after all?

I just called ARC-PA this morning and according to the lady I spoke with, it will take between 4-5 weeks to get the final approval.  I saw that someone posted that UVU had their accreditation meetings on 9/26-28 which puts the final approval between Oct 28th-Nov 2nd.  Hopefully this information is accurate.

That sounds accurate to me. Surely they aren’t waiting until then to send out acceptances, denials, waitlists for those of us that interviewed during the September date, right?

4-5 weeks? So I emailed the ARC-PA at the end of September and they told me the information would be dispersed 3 weeks after the meetings. Either way, the waiting game sucks.

When I emailed the ARC-PA last week they said, “questions regarding the accreditation status of a program should be directed to the program itself.” 🤷‍♀️Hopefully we have the status by the end of the month! I'm crossing my fingers, because I think this will be a great program!

I read on another forum that on Monday (10/21) someone called the ARC-PA and that person was informed that the list of accredited schools will be updated in 2 weeks. Sounds like that will put the posting around the beginning of November like you were thinking, PAPope. 🙂

I was accepted from the September interview group. I would love to talk to someone else who has been accepted, especially if UVU is your first choice.

Opened this email just now:

Many of you have been calling and wondering about the status of our accreditation.  We have not yet received official notification from the ARC-PA.  In light of the uncertainty, please do not make any plans or decisions until we receive confirmation of accreditation status.  We will let you know the ARC decision as soon as we know.

I am devastated this program did not get their accreditation this application cycle. Good luck to all who were accepted and now have to continue the process.

How did you find out that the program did not get accredited?

They sent out at email to the students that were accepted today explaining they didn’t get accredited so there will be no Jan 2020 cohort.

Wow, they really didn't get it?  That's horrible.  Do those who were accepted get priority next year?  Assuming they are accredited for a 2021 cohort?

I was on the waitlist, so I haven’t heard anything from them yet. Are they going to try again next year?

I was on the waitlist. This is the email I received.

As you know, Utah Valley University’s (UVU) applicant Physician Assistant Program (the Program) applied for provisional accreditation from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). We regret to inform you that the ARC-PA formally notified us yesterday that it has withheld provisional accreditation from the Program. As such, UVU will not launch its first cohort in January 2020, and will dissolve the waitlist for that cohort.

Today’s news undoubtedly raises questions and concerns. We will provide additional information to you by Friday, November 8, 2019.

We have been overwhelmed by the community and university support we have received in developing the Program. We have also been especially impressed by the quality and enthusiasm of our applicants. In a highly competitive application process, you stood out in accomplishment, character, and potential.

I wish there was some way for me to tell everyone to not apply to UVU. I finished my undergrad there, my wife worked there, and I knew about the development of the program. It's a good thing it didn't get accredited. They were rushing the process. Anyone starting in January 2020 would have been royally screwed. I hope you guys have backups. And good luck on the rest of this cycle.

I didn't know the school's reputation, but I visited the campus the first week of July and they literally had nothing to show me as far as the program's existence. Even the program coordinator / secretary was on her first day (in July! for a program interviewing that month I think). It was just so...weird. Especially compared with the other 2 area programs. I don't have anywhere as much insight as you do, but I wholeheartedly agree. I just got such an unsettling feeling from the whole visit. It sucks so, so bad for everyone that was planning on attending. I hope everyone quickly gets their money back and has alternate plans. 💔

Everyone's probably been googling like crazy, but here's another local SLC-area article: https://www.ksl.com/article/46669053/physician-assistant-program-at-utah-valley-denied-accreditation-future-unclear

I agree, when I interviewed I had my one on one interview with Jennifer and she did not seem to know anything about my application.  She even said that she read so many applications that she didn't remember anything about mine. Also, on my interviews with the other staff they seemed confused on who was who. I felt like they were not organized at all. I understand they get alot of applications but they should at least look into who they are interviewing each day.  Also, they asked us to take our resume and they did not look at it.

I worked as a PRN rehab technician for about 3 months (roughly 20 hours a week) before I became Full-Time (40 hours a week).  How do I record this change in hours? Do I make two separate entries or average the hours per week?  My hours for PRN also varied each week, with weeks working up to 30 hours and sometimes only 15 hours. Do I need to record this somehow? I also do not understand how PA schools validate that the numbers of hours stated are honest. Is there some sort of validation document needed from each employer from past jobs.  Any advice is appreciated, thank you!

I thought I’d start this since I didn’t see any posts about this application cycle yet. Has anyone heard back besides the normal “we received your application” email?

I was checking my verified application & I have “Punjabi” listed under “native language”.  On CASPA my response to “first language” was “Punjabi”.   To clarify, I am fluent in English. (I’ve been speaking English since I was 5!! I answered to "first language" quite literally.) Will I run into any problem with PA programs? Would they assume otherwise?   --I was born in California and went to schools K-12 in Cali and then Uni of Cali, Santa Cruz for undergrad. Has anyone else experienced this?
**The application is locked & I am unable to change it to English**

Hi everyone.  Thought I'd start the discussion for the 2019-2020 application cycle.  Good luck!
