Moderator EMEDPA Posted September 7, 2010 Moderator Share Posted September 7, 2010 it's a good part time or semi-retired gig. don't do it right out of school or you will never work anywhere else. it is too limited in scope and you will lose all your skills. paintx
I visited a CVS clinic a few weeks ago as I found myself in a submission hold versus ragweed and elm pollen. I self-registered and waited behind two other people. I saw an NP and it was a fairly painless experience. I basically informed her of my backgorund, what I needed and what was wrong. She used a homegrown EMR and at one point had to consult a very generic-looking three-ring binder. I think she was trying to look up an ICD code, but that binder basically contained an outline of conditions that might be encountered in that type of setting along with B&W exam photos. That alone made me a bit uncomfortable. I was surprised to see the insurance copay was the same for an office visit, but they are definately not an urgent care. EMED, you are so right. They are very limited in scope.
