sunny2spot
So I'm thinking this conference looks worth attending. Has anyone been to this conference before/does anyone know anything about it? I just started my first job out of school and it seems well-suited for someone in my situation. Here's the link: http://www.ccme.org/embootcamp/ Also, are there any other decent EMed conferences worth going to? Other than SEMPA, which I know I missed this year.. Thanks in advance :)
Moderator EMEDPA Posted May 3, 2012 Moderator Share Posted May 3, 2012 SEMPA/AAPA/ACEP Also sponsor an em course called CRASH which covers the same material for a lot less money...do a search on the aapa site for info on crash.
browndog
I intend to purchase the DVD package with CME money after the conference. I know one of the presenters and he has a great deal of experience as an EMT-P, emergency nurse, flight nurse and NP in emergency medicine. I like the format and the projected DVD cost is attractive. browndog
What I really want to find is a proper (cadaver) anatomy course. This is one of the many shortcommings of NP education.

Moderator EMEDPA Posted May 4, 2012 Moderator Share Posted May 4, 2012 What I really want to find is a proper (cadaver) anatomy course. This is one of the many shortcommings of NP education. there are several good ones out there. many focus on airway procedures but there are some for central lines, chest tubes, etc ATLS is a good start but they have gone to manequins. the first few times I took atls it was on pigs or goats. Thanks EMEDPA, I'll do a search. The University of Tennessee actually offers an undergraduate anatomy course that includes a full cadaver lab. I would like to have the opportunity to participate in a full dissection as my anatomy education (NP) was didactic only and left a LOT to be desired. If anyone knows of such a course please let me know. Thanks
Moderator EMEDPA Posted May 4, 2012 Moderator Share Posted May 4, 2012 most community colleges offer a+p with dissection. might be a good low cost alternative.
surgblumm
I have spoken personally with Dr. Burka who owns the company and has been in EM for 28 years. I was asked to be on the faculty and somewhat chickened out because I know that so many of you have as much experience and more and the amount of courses in small time frames is like a gift from heaven for an emergency medicine PA. This is probably the best course in the USA without the workshops that are available at SEMPA. Bob Blumm
lightbearer06
+1 for AAPA/SEMPA CRASH course. Excellent conference. I am not sure about EMed Bootcamp though.
surgblumm
SEMPA has always had the finest courses. This is not to take away from SEMPA but this is an addendum by the most proficient leaders in emergency medicine and deserves a focused exam by all excellent ER PAs Bob Blumm
sunny2spot
Hey guys! I'm just following up after Bootcamp last week -- it was great! I realize now that the reason no one could really speak on their experience with it was because it was their first time doing it. They sold out at 700 in attendance (PAs, NPs, and MDs) and have another scheduled in December. It was extremely comprehensive and the speakers (with one unfortunate exception) were fantastic! Everything was as current and boiled down as possible which is exactly was I needed. Dr. Burka was great too :)
surgblumm
Glad that you attended and were challenged by this vey advanced course. Every PA in the nation should be at a course like this one. Bob
