kylemills
Hey everyone. Just wanted to get a thread started for those applying for admissions to the PA program at the University of Kentucky for Spring 2013. Maybe we can share our application experience and help answer questions. Kyle
sumya.e
Hey Kyle. Seems like a great idea! Have you started working on your application? I'm trying to get mine submitted as early as possible. Mya

sumya.e
do you think it would look bad if none of my letters of recs were from a PA?
akdEM
I remember them telling us at some point that they like to see at least one letter be from a PA. I'm sure there are people who get in without it, but it would probably be very helpful if you had one. Could one of the people you shadowed write you a letter? Goosefraba1
I had the PA that I shadowed write one for me. Really, they are going to be the people that can really say whether you would be a good fit as a PA. I would also suggest a past supervisor or science profs. Just whoever can best say that they know how you can perform.

kylemills
Sumya.e, My application has been submitted for a few weeks now. I got on it as soon as it opened basically. I wonder when we will hear anything regarding interview invites?
Goosefraba1
I think that UK is doing rolling admissions this year, so invites will probably be sent out differently this year. It seems like we received our invites around the middle of July, but I could be wrong. Just try to concentrate on other things.... the wait is the hardest part. jlchan1
Hello Everyone- Just curious if anyone has heard anything about when they will start sending out invites for interviews. I wonder how the rolling admissions will change the process??

Goosefraba1
One of the reasons why the program changed to rolling is that it is a headache to have only 2 interview dates and 80 invites per day. Makes for a super long day.... and it makes the process less personable. By having several dates with only 10 invites or so per day makes the interview process a little less rushed. Hopefully, we can get the best possible candidates this way. As far as a timeline, we mere students don't really have a hand in when the invites get sent out. I also don't really know if there is an advantage of getting an early invite over a late invite. Last year, the program started a more holistic approach to interview. This helps get the candidate that is the whole package. So, just make sure that you practice your interview skills with a friend/ parent/ professor. I recommend finding a prof.... so that you make yourself feel less comfortable during a practice-interview. This is likely closer to how you will feel during the interview. jlchan1
Congrats, tompkbr. Nothing for me so far. When did you get your application in?
tompkbr
I submitted my CASPA application on 19 May, and was verified on 30 May. With rolling admissions, I don't know how many interview dates UK is planning, but I would imagine that there will be quite a few. If your application made the first "mailing" from CASPA, I'm sure you'll hear something before you know it.
jlchan1
Thanks, tompkbr. I believe I got in on the first mailing which was only last week, I believe. My CASPA was verified at the end of May also. Hoping that there are a quite of few interview dates! Good luck to you!
akdEM
The first wave of interview invites went out this last week, but there will be a total of 7 interview days (not set in stone) so don't get discouraged. July 13th is the first one, and they will go all the way until the end of September.
