  • 2 weeks later...

Heyy, I am currently a year one FIU PA student finishing up my second semester.

The days vary depending on what classes we have that day and the second semester's days are little different.

During the first semester, a typical day involved class around 8am or 9am, we would usually have around 3 classes a day, usually 2 hours each, with a one hour lunch break in between. Some days would end around 3pm and some at 5pm, depending on the classes we have (Anatomy labs in the afternoon twice a week usually went on later). In the afternoon some would go home to relax and then study at night, others would stay in the library to study and then head home, which varies if we had testing that week or not.

For the second semester, we have around 4 classes a day. Most days start at 8am and end around 5 or 6pm, with 1 hour lunch in the middle of the day. It changes along with the semester because some classes are shorter in the semester and end/start later, and the schedule definitely varies. It was a little hard to get used to the amount of information we would get in a 2 hour class, and then repeating that 3 more times, and finding the energy to study as soon as we get home, but believe me you will get used to it and adjust.

If you have anymore questions feel free to message me!

Thank you! That’s some good information. Any tips or input on living situations? Where to live, etc.

Here is a link to a google sheets that I have created to more easily access information on each of the schools in Florida and the requirement standards for acceptance or preference. All programs were retrieved from Stetson University website: https://www.stetson.edu/artsci/pre-health/physician-assistant.php , and all program details listed on the google sheet were obtained through each programs website URL in the Stetson link provided. I hope this can help anyone who finds it hard to look up this information and compare and contrast each of the programs, as it has for me.
Note: The Prerequisite list does not always include if the lab is required. I have listed Hours next to some courses where permitted, and If the course required a lab I did not always list it, but instead just listed the hours included. Example: Microbiology is a 3hr course for me, So when I see that it is listed as 4hrs, I know that this means a Lab must be taken for that class.
If anyone has any extra questions, Please do let me know, and I will try to answer.
If I have left out anything or made any mistakes, Please let me know and I will fix them ASAP, but I feel that it is accurate at this point, with regards to all sections except the "Average acceptance GPA", as this information was harder for me to find.

Hi! Im a Biology student at FIU, currently taking my pre reqs for PA school. I am finding it quite difficult to find a PA willing to let me shadow them. I have emailed some. A couple responded stating that they weren't allowed to as they work in a private practice. I know a couple of NPs that will let me shadow them, but of course my school requires a LOR from a PA.
Anyway, my email is dbrow251@fiu.edu! If you know anyone or are a PA willing to let me shadow them, don't be afraid to message me. I will of course provide a copy of my resume!
      Thank you!

So I was reviewing the Florida International University PA program website and they said that they admit over 90% of their class who are from Florida. I am not from Florida so I was wondering if the odds are stacked pretty highly against me for this school? Is it worth spending the money to apply here?
