This is going to sound pretty dumb but I'm serious! I'm so confused when it comes to applying to PA schools regarding the prerequisite coursework. I know MEDEX say that the courses can't be a part of prior training, but then I read online articles about how to incorporate prereqs for PA schools into your undergrad experience, killing 2 birds with 1 stone sorta thing...I understand the necessary courses. But I'm having a hard time discerning if the coursework can have been done as a part of one's undergrad. For example the cellular bio I took in my undergrad. Will that be applicable to MEDEX? Or does every prereq have to be done after completing one's bachelors? By the way I have a BA, not a BS. I'm late to the party:(

Confirm with MEDEX but it's my understand that prereqs can be from prior degrees. My wife had A&P I and II as part of a degree program and was accepted and graduated. MEDEX says "

  • Each prerequisite course must be taken as a “stand-alone” course, separate from other prior certificate training programs and professional degree programs."

MEDEX looks for evidence of the ability to succeed in an intense, scientific, graduate-level curriculum. Prerequisite courses include Human Anatomy & Physiology, General Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Statistics, and English. Each prerequisite course must be passed with a minimum B- (2.7) grade.

Prerequisite courses must be taken as “stand-alone” courses, separate from any prior training program.

Professional degree is like MD, JD, PharmD, etc. So I would e-mail MEDEX and say "I have cellular bio from my BA degree, is this course accepted)

And don't think because you have a BA you are any less of an applicant! I have a BA in Emergency Management and am switching career paths in a few years. Some honest feedback is DO NOT go into any program thinking you are late to the party or less of an applicant. I have seen a wide range on this forum as well as at some of the meet and greets with my wife. I've met MA's, EMTs, Paramedics, Dental Hygienists, Pharmacy Techs. Even in the current Anchorage class there is a student who has special hands on training that is unique.

      Hello everyone,

After a stressful interview cycle, I am fortunate enough to be accepted to both MEDEX Seattle and Rush Chicago. I'm trying to decide which program to attend.
I live in Seattle, my parents/friends can be my support system. In my clinical year, I can move back home to save on rent money when I move to my rotation sites. I love traveling and meeting new people. Attending PA program in Chicago will be such an adventure. Also, Rush's class size is significantly smaller MEDEX's (30 vs 50). My background is in EM and I'm planning to practice in EM after graduation. Due to the higher number of trauma centers around the Chicago area, maybe I have more job opportunities in Chicago?

I am looking for a program with a support system and a family feeling among colleagues and faculties. Please let me know if you have any insight or advice.

Wondering if anyone knows of schools with minimal or no credit expirations. Many schools require prereqs are taken within 5, 7, 10 years and I've retaken three courses thus far to meet most schools' requirements. Soon, more will fall outside of these ranges and it's exasperating to think I will have to pay out-of-pocket for more classes. I'll probably wind up retaking them, but I figure it doesn't hurt to put feelers out there if it means having more money dedicated to applications.

Hey, everybody! Fairly new here. I’ve been scrolling through other threads on this site regarding recommended online schools for prerequisite courses. A few of the threads are extremely helpful but several years old, so I wanted to start a more contemporary thread in case online school qualities have changed or there are any new ones.
I’m looking to take biochemistry and anatomy online. Ideally a low price would be great, but a self-paced online course is most important to me considering my current career and associated time restrictions.
I’ve been looking heavily at UNE for both courses but have heard mixed reviews. Any recommendations or suggestions based on your experiences, for UNE or others?
      Thank you so much!

      Greetings future PAs,
My name is Elizabeth and this is my second year applying to MEDEX with my first interview. I am very excited and nervous at the same time. I'm unsure on how the Zoom interview will go and I want to reach out to anyone else that feels the same way. Id love to get to know a few of you prior to the Zoom interview to feel a bit more comfortable. I look forward to meeting you all on 11/14, and hopefully one day in the classroom.
      Sincerely,
      Elizabeth Boudreau
