chocoloco
Hi all, I’ve been accepted to the Dominican University of California for 2019, and I was wondering if anyone could give some advice on the best/most affordable areas to live in the Bay Area. I noticed in San Rafael the rent is anywhere from 2k-3k monthly, however if you go outside the bay 20 miles or so, the rent is significantly cheaper. Is it realistic to live this far away from campus with traffic and such? As far as the Bay Area goes what are safe, quiet, and cheapest areas? Thanks all for the input. Cideous
20 miles there is like 80 any places else. Traffic there can be soul crushing every morning and every night....

Guest HanSolo
You might be able to find decent rent in Petaluma, but it's worth paying the extra rent money to live close to school versus sitting in traffic. Also, you might have to get roommates.
chocoloco
Unfortunately on campus housing isn’t an option for graduate students. I think Petaluma may just be where I try and find a place, definitely more affordable than San Rafael. Going to call housing tomorrow and see if they have a rooming list.
