PA students & the AAPA Conference 12'

Recommended Posts

I am the VP of my class so naturally I am going to the AAPA conference this year in Toronto. Does

anyone have suggestions on which days are the best for us to go to. I know the website had a list of student related dates, but we will not be participating in the bowl challenge and I'm trying to budget out the trip for the other classmates of mine that are going. The fewer days we go the cheaper, but I also don't wanna miss anything, so I just wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations, I have never been to an AAPA conference. Thanks

Sunday through Tuesday. You'll definitely want to go to the challenge bowl on Sunday night. Also, I believe Monday is the big day for students, there are always some excellent sessions for students. Also, if you're into research, Tuesday is when all the action is with the poster session. See you all in Toronto.

I've got to be there for the challenge bowl at least, but I really want to stay as long as I can. Capitol Connection has me excited about these conferences and the IMPACT conference is really the one to go to. If there isn't a mandatory event for your students can attend, can they individually choose the days that contain events that interest them most? Or maybe everyone who plans to attend can just vote.

the Challenge Bowl was definitely one of the highlight of IMPACT conference. How did you enjoy Capitol Connection this year? I went last year and really enjoyed it.

Yeah I am excited for the Challenge Bowl, should be a blast.

I thought Capitol Connection rocked. It was my first national-level conference as a PA student and it as great to meet PAs and students from all over the country. The professional activism is so important, especially on the federal stage, and I learned a ton about ho much work goes into making sure we have the legal right to do our job. I will definitely do it again if I can.

Hello, I am Chase Bernardy, a current 3rd Year at CSUSB - Cal State San Bernardino as Kinesiology Allied Health Major with a minor in Biology and overall GPA of 3.7. I am in desperate need to shadow in order to graduate on time. I work as an EMT and Phlebotomist, and am taking more medical classes this summer. Any help would be appreciated, I understand the difficulty with COVID, but I am not afraid of the task. Have a good day!

      Hello,
I'm having a little panic session right now. I submitted one application and realized I did not add the last name for a PA that I shadowed in my experience section. Is this gonna be a major issue for my application? I thought CASPA meant that I couldn't edit the submitted application but that I could still edit the ones I had not yet submitted and now I realize I can't. Are schools going to fault me for this?

I know that you can literally major in ANYTHING, but do some programs have an inherent preference for science majors. Would majoring in for instance Communications, be seen as taking the "easy way out". Obviously, getting an A in a upper division communications class is easier than getting an A in a upper division biology class (not a pre-req). This would lead to a high cGPA but will pa programs hold this against you in some way???

Hi my name is Michele,  I live in Staten Island NY. I am a current senior in clincals for medical laboratory science. I also graduated a medical assistant program recently. I have previous experience in NICU and maternity. I need shadowing hours for both the school but also to insure I'm making the right decision. I drive so most comfortable areas for me is here on the island or NJ. Thank you for considering me and all you do .

Hello! I'm currently taking ochem (the second ochem class to complete the ochem unit requirements for some pa programs) but I'm not taking the lab. Would the lab be needed to complete the unit requirement even though my ochem units would suffice? there's literally one school I am going to apply to that says preferred requirement for ochem or biochem preferred with lab but I am not taking lab because of the course load. Would it detrimental if i dont take lab at all? as long as im taking the ochem classes..?
another thing, some schools require spanish but i took 4 years of spanish in high school (including the AP examination): is this acceptable?
