Am I on the right track?

Recommended Posts

Hello! I am new to this website and I wish to get into a Physician Assistant Program in the future.  Right now, I am stumped. I am currently a sophomore student athlete for my school and I am in the process of completing my prerequisites . So far , for science GPA, I have:

Principles of Biology: A

Intro to Physiology: B

General Chemistry: B+

My cumulative GPA (with CASPA): 3.43

I know it is too early for to be worrying, but I rather be safe than sorry! I am just wondering if I am doing good so far for my sGPA. I know PA school is very competitive, but I want to know if having a B+ is good enough for an application in the future.

It is not super high or super low and you likely have to have stand out in other aspects.  If you have a goal, no reason to settle for lower grades.  If I had a goal in undergrad I would have smashed my classes, but I didn't and did not get the best  grades.  This sets you back and makes you need to bust tail much harder later on.  Years back I will add.

Thing to keep in mind is that it's going to get harder to get into PA school every year as time passes.  Standards are constantly being adjusted.  My PA school just made the fail line anything below 80% this past year.  So they picked most students who had very high GPAs that have shown to be able to stay above those marks.  Keep this in mind.

You've made a good start. Don't get overly concerned with your average at this stage, but focus on doing your best. And do some shadowing so you can be sure this is the right career for you.

Good luck!
