EMT classes count toward gpa?

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I’m reapplying next round and I’m trying to get my whole application better. I took emt school and am now working as an emt, since having no hands on patient care was something I think that held me back last year. I was talking to someone who said the classes you took in emt school can count towards your gpa for CASPA, is this true? And does it apply to a vocational type of school? My emt school was its own school, sort of like a vocational school and not at a community college

from my knowledge anytime you are learning/a student and not actually on the job the hours do not count. CNA requires 40 hours of clinical before becoming certified and those hours do not count since they are clinicals and you're still technically training

It depends on if you took the classes as Continuing Education or part of a curriculum.  Most standalone EMT classes are CE.  You probably didn't receive grades or have separate classes.  EMT when taken as part of a 2 year paramedic degree are entered into CASPA as classes and grades.

I received 8.5 science credits for my EMT class, and they count toward my cGPA and sGPA in CASPA. It's program dependent though, so you should check with the program you took the class with. Most EMT classes do not give letter grades, I got lucky.

So did you just call your emt school and ask what grade you got?

I took mine at a community college and asked if we would get letter grades before the class started. They told me I would, and the grades were posted on my transcript. But yes, if I were you I would call and ask if they gave letter grades for the EMT class, and if so how you can find them.
